Alrighty, gonna get this thread started with a hardcore challenge of my own. Before the description I'd like to note that I haven't played any of the games for 2 years now and I've played NoTR only once I don't remember most of the stuff and I'm not planning to watch walkthroughs or anything.
Name: Roleplayer Challenge: Finish the gothic story.
1)Gothic
2)Gothic 2 NoTR
3)Gothic 3
[4)] Should I add Forsaken Gods here? - I have never played it before.
Conditions:
1) No glitching(i.e taking salesmen inventory after beating them up in G1, or infinite smithing in G2)
2) Follow daily routines: Sleep at night-time, eat when waking up and more.
3) Taking risks. Can't help it, makes the game more interesting.
Gothic 1

Journal:
#1 After I miserably failed 2 times at the very beginning, when I asked that sect guy to take me to the Sect camp and got killed by Lizards and scavengers,I finally made it to Chapter 2 as a Shadow.
Here are my stats. Learnt acrobatics at lvl 3.
1) Failing to kill the Dam Lurker I jumped into the water, but the lurker started swimming after me. I managed to get out of the water without him hitting me and lured it to Cord and his trainees who sucessfully killed them. As I was refilling my hp, the game glitched and one of the trainees thought I still had the sword up. I realised he was not going to calm down and started to run away. He took out his bow and started firing at me. I managed to escape due to him failing to target most of his shots, due to my acrobatics. Still, if he had managed to hit me one more time, I'd have died.
2) After I got beat up by Lefty, who took my ore, I was forced to hunt bloodflies in the forest between Old and Sect camp. Ran into a pack of wolves there who only needed 1 more shot at me, but the last wolf somehow missed his attack by jumping over me, which allowed me to jump into water with acrobatics.

Sounds like you got a lot to do miku-juku!
Good Luck and have fun
My G2 NotR HC attempt has made further progress:
I am now lvl 40 (yes!!) with
92% Bowskill
154 Dex and
~800 Hitpoints
wearing the Knight armor and amus+rings for sumary 115/115/~60/~40 (dont remember all exact values right now)
Currently i am at the bottom of the hill where the stone dragon will await me. Done alot of that lizard men, orc warriors/elites, fire warans, fire golems, wargs and all the stuff lurking around in the valley of mines. Also done with the Orc Champions in Khorinis.
Some close moments happened to me when i didnt notice some lizard men around the corner that somehow managed to stand right in front of me and landed some hits, but my acrobatic skill saved my life there, because it made it possible to run quick enough to escape.
Another close moment was when i attempted to get the magic bow in Jarkhendar. I jumped from the cliff onto the plattform with the bow, but somehow i dragged a bit backwards when i landed and i was standing on a tiny stone directly after the end of the broken bridge part. I thought i was dead... it was almost like in the movies when the good guy falls from the cliff, but somehow manages to get hold on something to prevent his unlucky fate.
I am still thinking of a good strategy to attack the stone dragon.
maybe i summon some golems or demons or skeletons to divert him and then use my ridiculously overpowered bow attacks to beat it.
Sounds like you got a lot to do miku-juku!

Hell yea, and it's gonna be hard aswell
Fought my first orc and it nearly ripped me to pieces, because it dragged some biters with him.
About to enter the Orc Cemetry.

I usually summon demon to kill the stone dragon.

DIARY: I'm still in 2nd chapter, about to enter 3rd. Cleared out the whole forest north of Khorinis and whole VoM. It was relatively easy and safe cause I got 120 armor, more than 600 HP + 2h Claw of Beliar but I did run out of potions AND healing spells cause of all that killing so I had to use healing plants, meat, cheese, bread etc. About to enter Ch3 now.
raiz if you're an archer its a piece of cake to kill a dragon. You just have to shoot arrows at him at a faster rate than he can regen health. And considering your dexterity and bow skill you'll probably do it easily. I know cause I've passed NotR as an archer couple of months ago. Also, use a speed potion before fighting him to prevent him getting close to you.
miku-juku GL with your playthrough though, honestly, if you haven't played NotR in 2 years and you only passed it once its gonna be very, VERY hard for you to pass it without dying. There are certain places that are almost 100% guaranteed death if you don't know exactly what to do(or not to do).
The OP of last thread didn't add people who passed the challenges so could you do it? I remember Phillip of the Fire Clan passed G1 and NotR, his stats and journal are on pages 17 and 18 of last thread. There are probably more people who passed the challenge before but I know we can't expect you to correct the mistakes of last OP(but if you have time it'd be a nice thing to do ).

I will be extremely cautious then
I've played vanilla version a lot though, so that part of the game will go easy

I'll go through the pages and see if there are any. Not guaranteed to find them all, so it is safer to post here or PM me, when you finish or have finished already.

I decided that I will play gothic, gothic 2 NotR and also gothic 3. Name: Dragon hero Game: Gothic Guild: shadow/guard --> mercenary Build: str/2h/xbow (maybe)
DIARY: Entered CH3, cleared whole Khorinis except places with people, Inubis crypt and undead cave behind Dexter's tower. Purified shrines, got back the Eye of Innos and entered Ch4. As soon as I entered CH4 I came back to Khorinis to hunt down the Orc Warlords and clear Jharkendar, about to clear Jharkendar now.
Name: Roleplayer Challenge: Finish the gothic story.
Hahaha, I died when I was on my way to sect camp again.
This time I acrobatic jumped against a tree which flipped me in the air and I flew into to the river that instantly dropped me down the waterfall and I died
I'll finish the game(C.4), then I will try again.

P.S Philip, you're added to the hall of fame now.

Oh yeah!
I am lvl 48 now and i killed all the dragons - bam !
It was really ridiculous. 160 Dex and 94% bow skill... i needed ~10 shots for the fire dragon and ice dragon.
Now i am in chapter 5 ported to pyrokar and now i will prepare for chapter 6.
I don't know how to use my skill points :x Still spending some on dex though.
I am not using any paladin runes, because my standard bow attack is much stronger than that 'crap'.
Hopefully i will not fall down a cliff or something!
Chapter 6 was a piece of cake. I was way too overpowered. Took like 300-400 arrows to complete the last chapter.
Funny things chapter6:
- my plan for the undead dragon was to summon 7-8 demons and thats it... but the demons just attacked each other, until just 1 was left .... too bad (after that i took my bow and killed the dragon myself)
- when fighting feomathar (that fire dragon there) his knockback attack once hit me and glitched me out of the map Oo. That totally was a bug because after the glitching ended i was standing on a plattform far far away from the ship, which i could barely see in the very far distance. I used marvin-mode to port me back on the island then.
DIARY: Cleaned whole Jharkendar. Admittedly, I got freezed once by a skeleton mage(didn't expect to find a skeleton mage in Jharkendar) but since I had 150 armor I survived easily. I bought all potions in game I could find. It wasn't exactly hard to clear Jharkendar but with all the Dragon Snappers I did use a lot of healing potions. After that I went to VoM and cleaned it whole before going into areas with dragons. Didn't face any real challenges there. Took on the swamp dragon with Cipher and Rod. Tried to take on fire dragon by summoning 3 stone golems, however the stone golems started attacking each other and the dragon was moving too much for me to hit him so I killed stone golems, retreated, healed and summoned 2 skeletons. They made a nice diversion and while he was busy fighting them I killed him. For stone dragon only used 1 skeleton. For Ice dragon I used 4(I summoned 2 but he killed them with fireballs in one hit cause I was too far away), its odd how fireball kills them instantly while the knock back fire breathing move dragons use in melee does almost nothing to skeletons. Now I entered ch5 and am too lazy and tired to continue this evening.
Gonna kill EVERYTHING and EVERYBODY that/who can be killed before leaving Khorinis.
miku-juku yeah, its probably smart to finish G1 before trying to pass it HC because that way you'll get to know some dangerous things which can bring you death(especially traps in Sleeper Temple).
raiz GJ on that, I knew you'll make it after all those tries . Good that I learned from your mistake, my plan was to summon 2 demons for undead dragon, so I'd fuck myself over like I did against the fire dragon, summoning 3 stone golems at once.
Geändert von MikeLitoris (22.03.2013 um 22:26 Uhr)
DIARY: Cleared out whole Khorinis, VoM, Jharkendar, prepared for Ch6. It was easy as a stroll in the park except that there was a bug with teleport to heavy paladin armor rune(it didn't appear in inventory) so I had to use lizard transformation to get behind the gate. Beat up everybody, used stone tablets for strength etc. On my way to ch6.
DIARY: Everything went more or less smooth, except that I actually did have a little trouble vs Undead Dragon. Took a speed potion before fighting him and tried Shrink, that didn't affect him at all. Then I summoned a demon and tried to kill him while Demon tanks his attacks but he killed the demon and took about 50% my hp. So in the end I ran behind a rock, healed, took Ice Wave, froze him and killed him. On my way back to the ship I beaten up everybody for xp.
I personally have the agend for that power ups all through the game, that i take them when i find them. Sometimes i will wait until i reached the next skill point cap (29 Dex and 59 Dex) for example and then take some power ups right after i crossed them with a teacher... so when i reached 64 for example.
I think its clever on the one hand to wait until chapter 5/6 because you can get much higher final stats, but on the other hand the game is so easy at that point of the game, that you dont need the power ups anymore :X
Hey guys ! I`m going to give HC another try ,this time a ranged character since i always died with melee.
Now my question is : What`s more fun? A dexterity-based character or a pure mage?
I`m thinking that the bow is unpredictable and may stuck or miss and i can easily die . On the other hand ,high dexterity allows me to open chests ,pickpocket and so on.
With the mage the only problem i see is mana ,at least in the beginning . So ,what do you think?
Well, both are bad early game and shine later on. But I say archer because:
- you aren't restricted by mana
- arrows are easy to come by, unlike mana pots
- you can get a lot of gold/xp by pickpocketing and taking animal skins(assuming you'll be Bosper's apprentice and learn skinning)
One thing I DON'T like about being an archer is that there is too much luck involved with projectile hitting an enemy or not. And you don't want anything in HC to depend on luck. I mostly rely on melee weapons until I get enough dexterity to start using high tier bows and until I get enough bow skill.
OFC being a mage has its pros too. More utility and projectiles always land. If I were to play HC again I'd play as an archer so I'm not telling you which one is 100% objectively stronger, just telling you my preference.
TBH if you want a really safe char play as 2h paladin.
TBH if you want a really safe char play as 2h paladin.
Well, actually i`ve tried as a paladin like 8 or 9 times without succes .As far as i got was the dragon hunt.I guess my mistake was that i was playing as a melee and not as a dexterity-based paladin.
Like the archer , a melee character also depends on that critical hit to cause more damage.
